Applicants can provide their cell phone numbers so that USCIS can send them a text message notifying them that USCIS received their application or petition.
On June 25, 2009, President Obama announced that within 90 days, USCIS would implement a capability for customers to stay informed on the status of their applications using technologies such as email and text messages. USCIS is adding a notification to its website informing applicants and petitioners to provide their cell phone number and e-mail address with their application petition if they want to receive notification by e-mail or text messaging.
