THE EMPLOYEE VITAL STATUS LETTER IS
USED IN RETROSPECTIVE MORTALITY STUDIES. FINDINGS FROM THESE
STUDIES ARE INCORPORATED INTO NATIONAL CRITERIA THAT SUGGESTS
LEVELS OF EXPOSURE TO TOXIC SUBSTANCES TO WHICH WORKERS CAN BE
EXPOSED WITHOUT FEAR THAT THEY WILL BECOME ILL LATER. THE
OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (OSHA) WILL THEN USE
THESE CRITERIA TO DETERMINE IF EXISTING LEVELS OF TOXIC SUBSTANCES
IN THE WORK PLACE
