Abstract: HOSPITALS AND CLINICAL LABORATORIES PARTICIPATING IN MEDICARE MUST BE APPROVED BY THE HEALTH CARE FINANCING ADMINISTRATION (HCFA) FO COMPLIANCE WITH HEALTH AND SAFETY STANDARDS. AS PART OF THE APPROVAL PROCESS, EACH HOSPITAL OR LABORATORY IS SURVEYED BY A STATE AGENCY UND AN AGREEMENT WITH HCFA TO DETERMINE THAT THE HOSPITAL OR LABORATORY MEET FEDERAL STANDARDS.
