Abstract: FORM 8271 IS USED BY ALL PERSONS WHO HAVE ACQUIRED AN INTEREST IN CERTAIN TAX SHELTERS AND WHO HAVE CLAIMED SHELTER TAX BENEFITS ON THEIR RETURNS TO INCLUDE THE IRS-ASSIGNED TAX SHELTER REGISTRATION NUMBER ON THE RETURNS (BY ATTACHING FORM 8271). WE USE THE INFORMATION TO ASSOCIATE CLAIMED BENEFITS WITH THE TAX SHELTER TO DETERMINE IF ANY COMPLIANCE ACTIONS ARE WARRANTED.
