In accordance
with 5 CFR 1320 and the Paperwork Reduction Act, we approve the
information collection request associated with the evaluation
surveys for the San Diego county food stamp cashout demonstration
project. The number of responses and the total burden hours for OMB
#0584-0387 reflect only the San Diego county project. FNS will
resubmit the evaluation surveys for the other three demonstration
projects for review under the Paperwork Reduction Act closer to the
date those projects are scheduled to begin.

DATA COLLECTION WILL BE A SURVEY OF
FOOD STAMP HOUSEHOLDS TAKING PART IN FOUR SEPARATE EVALUATIONS. ONE
HALF OF THE RESPONDENTS WILL RECEIVE THEIR BENEFITS IN CASH, THE
OTHER IN COUPONS. IN EACH EVALUATION COMPARISONS WILL BE MADE
BETWEEN THE TWO GROUPS OF RESPONDENTS TO DETERMINE THE EFFECTS OF
CASH-OUT ON FOOD EXPENDITURES, FOOD USE AND NUTRIENT AVAILABILITY.
ADMINISTRATIVE COST DATA WILL ALSO BE COMPARED.
