Abstract: DURING 1990, THE IRS RECEIVED APPROXIMATELY 1.5 MILLION INDIVIDUAL TAX RETURNS FROM TAXPAYERS WHO WERE NOT REQUIRED TO FILE. THE SERVICE WIL NOTIFY THESE TAXPAYERS ENCOURAGING THEM NOT TO FILE A RETURN IF THEY D NOT MEET THE FILING REQUIREMENTS OUTLINED ON THE WORKSHEET. THIS EFFO IS IN LINE WITH IRS INITIATIVES - REDUCING TAXPAYER BURDEN - COMPLIANC 2000 INITIATIVE (SIMPLIFYING INSTRUCTIONS FOR TAXPAYERS).
