Section 826 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 1997 requires the Department of Defense to conduct a study and report to the Congress by March 23, 1997, on the effectiveness of defense mergers and acquisitions in eliminating excess capacity and the effect of mergers and acquisitions on dependence of these firms on defense-related contracts, the effect on defense employment, and the effect on competition for defense contracts. The respondents will generally be those contractors with the largest amount of defense sales.
