This collection is approved as amended by ED's revisions of 4/11/97 and 4/17/97 and under the following condition. ED shall take additional steps, as agreed to with OMB, to achieve a 90 percent response rate. Without at least a 90 percent response rate on this survey, given that the sample is based on the GSS data which initially yielded a 76 percent response rate, the survey results will be based on a potentially biased sample that is not representative of the national population. If ED is unable to obtain at least a 90 percent response rate, ED shall specifically and clearly report that the data are not nationally representative and the potential bias that exists in any forum that the survey data are reported, whether written or oral.

Research shows that family involvement in education is key to children learning to challenging standards. However, certain important questions could not be answered with extent data. Accordingly, this data is relevant to ED's current initiative on family involvement in education and to the efforts of the 2500 grassroots organizations that are members of the Partnership for Family Involvement in Education. They include schools, education, parent, and community groups and employers.
