Rule 17f-5 permits a registered management investment company ("fund") to maintain its assets with a foreign custodian. As amended in 1997, the rule permits a fund's board of directors to delegate certain responsibilities under the rule if the board finds that reliance on the delegate is reasonable, and the delegate agrees to provide periodic written reports to the board.
