MMS uses the information to determine the necessity for allowing a well to be temporarily abandoned and that the temporary abandonment will not pose a threat to other users of the seabed. We also use the information to verify that the lessee/operator is diligently pursuing final disposition of a well and has performed the temporary plugging of the wellbore and marked the location. Respondents are Federal lesseess and operators on the Outer Continental Shelf.
