demonstrated increased use of the emergency procedures of the
Paperwork Reduction Act. DOL is reminded to plan carefully so that
use of these procedures is minimized. Also, when this survey is
next conducted, DOL will examine the utility of updating the
questions used in this edition and the 1995 edition of the survey,
and compare this with the utility of using a consistent instrument
for evaluation purposes.

These surveys are designed to update
the data collected by the Commission on Family and Medical leave in
1995 on employees' need for and use of family and medical leave and
the impact of such leave on employers. The final research report
will discuss the survey findings and contrast of the 2000 surveys
with the 1995 surveys.
