The CDC is conducting a survey to assess and evaluate the relationships between laboratory practices and performance in US laboratories performing the rapid nucleic acid amplification tests for M. tuberculosis. These laboratories currently participate in the CDC's Performance Evaluation Program, which is the most comprehensive self evaluation tool curently offered for these tests. The M. tb NAA tests offer tremendous potential for the early detection, subsequent treatment control of tuberculosis, especially in relatively high prevalance population populations.
