the study, and discuss shortcomings. 2) Results can not be claimed
to be generalizable or representative of the Boston Public School
district or the Title I population in other "similar" urban areas.
3) Results of testing will not be provided to teachers until the
end of the school year, in order to reduce bias. 4) This design for
an academic/school district partnership for data collection should
not be used as a "model" for design methodology for other similar
studies.

Funding has been granted to carry out
an evaluation of four literacy models currently implemented in the
Boston Public Schools. The purpose of the evaluation will be to
gather informaiton about the strengths and weaknesses of these
models accross all domains of literacy and for all types of
students. The data collected from sixteen school and approximately
800 students of a two-year period will inform practice in the
school district and nationwide through dissemination in
professional publications.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
