A substantial delay in the delivery of 2000-01 influenza vaccine is expected. It is unknown how this dealy will affect U.S. nursing homes (NHs) access to vaccine and influenza-related health outocmes including the occurrence of influenza outbreaks. A sample of NHs in 9 states will be surveyed with a mailed survey. Some NHs in California will be contacted to participate in an additional study to validate the survey results. The results will be used to assess NHs access to vaccine, to evaluate the health impact of the delay in vaccine delivery, and to assess assess the use of other influenza infection control measures.
