Approved with
changes consistent with OMB memos of 06/21/02, 06/25/02 and
06/26/02 and NIH memos of 06/14/02 and 06/25/02. NIH will provide
information when publishing or presenting results regarding the
limitations of the data collected. At a minimum, NIH will
explicitly acknowledge the following limitations of survey results
for drawing any conclusions about the effect of the program on the
outcomes: there is no baseline information on participants prior to
their program participation and no control for self-selection bias
or levels of motivation and interest that existed prior to the
program; there is no comparison group against which to judge the
results of the survey respondents; only about 55% of the original
participants could be located and only XX% responded to the survey,
and the results from the respondents may not be representative of
all students who went through the program.
