Abstract: The Trademark Law Treaty Implementation Act (1998) required the USPTO to study issues related to the protection of the official insignia of federally-and state recognized Native American tribes under trademark law. In a 1999 report to the United States Senate, the USPTO recommended the establishment of a comprehensive database of the offiical insignia of all federal an and state recognized Native American tribes. Consequently, the Senate ordered the creation of this database.
