The Trademark Law Treaty
Implementation Act (1998) required the USPTO to study issues
related to the protection of the official insignia of federally-and
state recognized Native American tribes under trademark law. In a
1999 report to the United States Senate, the USPTO recommended the
establishment of a comprehensive database of the offiical insignia
of all federal an and state recognized Native American tribes.
Consequently, the Senate ordered the creation of this database. The
purpose this database is to assist trademark attorneys in their
examination of applications for trademark registration and to
provide a record
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
