BJS shall submit
to OMB via email each pretesting request describing the sample
size, methodology and study design, and all data collection
materials. OMB will respond within 10 working days either with an
approval or with questions requiring further feedback. BJS will
also submit an annual summary to OMB via email that describes all
testing activities conducted under this clearance. The first
summary should be submitted by Sept 30, 2006 for the period
covering effective date of this approval through June 30, 2005. The
second and third summaries should be submitted by Sept 30 of 2007
and 2008 covering the July 1 - June 30 time frame.

The Prison Rape Elimination Act of
2003 requires the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) to collect
data on the incidence and prevalence of sexual assault within all
types of correctional facilities. Work under this clearance
includes developing and testing reliable survey methodologies to
collect data and reduce the burden imposed on resondents and
facilities.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
