Collection of Information Employing Statistical Methods

1.

Universe of Respondents
The universe of the UDP respondents (companies) is as follows.
•

In 2006, ten U.S. uranium concentrate producers report (quarterly) on the Form
EIA-851Q.

•

In 2005, there were 55 respondents on Form EIA-851A (those 10 U.S. uranium
concentrate producers plus another 45 firms with uranium land, exploration,
drilling, mining, and/or reclamation activities in the United States).

•

In 2005, there were 66 respondents on the Form EIA-858. Thirty-seven owners
and operators of U.S. civilian nuclear power reactors report on the Form EIA-858
and 29 U.S. suppliers (4 brokers, 1 converter, 1 enricher, 3 fabricators, 1
government agency (DOE), 14 producers, and 5 traders) report on the Form EIA858

Eight Form EIA-851Q respondents also report on the Form EIA-851A and Form EIA858. Five Form EIA-851A respondents also report on the Form EIA-858.

Collection Procedures
Both Form EIA-851A and Form EIA-851Q surveys will be conducted on a new IDC
system to collect the data starting in 2007. The Form EIA-858 survey will utilize its IDC
system to collect the data. An alternative method to collect the data will be the Secure
File Transfer (SFT) of the survey forms. SFT is a functioning data collection system in
EIA.

Response Rates
The response rate for the surveys is expected to be 100 percent, based on the past three
years of respondent reporting patterns:
