Hello, my name is _________, at California State University, San Marcos. We are conducting a survey about California and Montana forest fire management on behalf of the USDA Forest Service. Can you hear me okay? This survey will take a few moments of your time now, and then we will send you a video survey (VHS or DVD) in the mail. After you receive the video survey, please watch it and answer the self-administered survey questions in the enclosed answer sheet. Return the answer sheet to us in the enclosed postage paid pre-addressed envelope.


Before starting let me informed you that: According to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, an agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, a collection of information unless it displays a valid OMB control number. The valid OMB control number for this information collection is 0596‑nnnn. The time required to complete this information collection is estimated to average 5 minutes per response for this screener and 30 minutes for the full interview, including the time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing the collection of information.

A prescribed fire or prescribed burn is a fire purposely and carefully set in a designated area by fire management personnel to accomplish one or more specific objectives such as removal of underbrush and dead wood to reduce available fire fuel and increase the ability to control future wildfires.
