Dear Mr. Brown:
About a month ago I wrote to you asking you to participate in a survey that Virginia Tech is conducting in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) of how regulatory codes affect the placement of manufactured housing (formerly known as mobile homes) in CDBG-eligible communities. If you already mailed back the questionnaire we provided, please disregard this letter and accept my sincere thanks. If not, please take 20 minutes to complete the questionnaire. I need your answers in order for us to provide accurate results and good advice to HUD and localities on how we can make housing more affordable.
You were chosen to be asked questions about your community’s practices regarding manufactured homes (referred to as HUD-Code homes in the enclosed questionnaire). However, if someone else in the town or city government is in a better position to provide this information, please pass this letter on and ask them to answer the enclosed questionnaire (for your convenience, I have included a replacement questionnaire in case you misplaced the one I sent earlier). As an alternative to filling out and mailing back the survey, you may participate through a telephone interview by calling me at 540 231-3993. I assure you that your participation and answers will be protected and that you or your community will not be identified in any published results.
The results of this research will be distributed nationally as a publication posted on HUD’s PATH website. If you would like an early summary of the results, please provide an email address on the line provided at the end of the questionnaire.
