Summation statement regarding the purpose for the proposed survey

The “Survey of Knowledge, Attitudes and Practice Management Patterns of Obstetricians Regarding Stillbirth Pregnancy Outcomes” survey is being administered to obstetricians in the 5 central counties of Atlanta, which comprise the catchment population for which surveillance of stillbirths is being conducted. The survey will serve two primary purposes:

  1. The survey will identify knowledge gaps, within the 5-county area, in the understanding of stillbirth, inconsistencies in the use of post-mortem evaluation protocols and barriers in the use of such protocols. A more accurate understanding of these issues is necessary for our program to develop and target educational and awareness strategies for this population of obstetricians.

  1. The survey will also serve the dual purpose of indirectly improving reporting practices among obstetricians relative to stillbirth occurrence in the 5-county area. It is anticipated that the awareness and educational strategies targeted toward this group of physicians will improve their reporting practices. These strategies will not necessarily be applicable to other programs and will not be designed with that in mind.
