Section A: Justification
The Peace Corps department of Volunteer Recruitment and Selection (VRS) is responsible for recruiting individual to serve in the Peace Corps. The Volunteer Application is the mechanism by which the general public makes an application to serve in the Peace Corps. Upon completion and submission of the application, an individual begins the process of being selected to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer. The Peace Corps Application is the tool used by Peace Corps to collect critical information from the applicant. This information is the initial record that an individual has begun the process to be selected to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
The information collected by the Volunteer Application is used by the Peace Corps to collect essential information from individuals. The Volunteer Application is the document of record for an individual’s decision to apply for Peace Corps service. This information is used by Peace Corps in its assessment of an individual’s qualifications to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
The Volunteer Application is an electronic document accessed through the Peace Corps website. The information provided by the applicant is collected electronically and becomes part of the applicant’s record.
The Application is the only document of its type used by the Peace Corps and is the first interaction with individuals interested in applying to the Peace Corps.

If the Application is not used, US Citizens will not be able to apply for Peace Corps service. The Agency will not be able to supply the Volunteers requested by the 70+ countries where Peace Corps currently serves. The Application is the only means by which a US Citizen can apply for Peace Corps service.
An individual need only apply once for Peace Corps service. If not selected to continue with the process, the individual must reapply. An application remains active for one year after the date of submission.

There is no payment of gift provided to respondents.
All information supplied by the applicant on the Application is confidential and the Peace Corps complies with Federal PII requirements.

The Volunteer Application Form will be totally electronic, which will mean considerable savings in personnel costs as well as improve compliance with the Paperwork Reduction Act. There will be a significant reduction in expenses from the elimination of printing, mailing and storing of the Volunteer Application. The revised version of the Volunteer Application Form includes new and updated text and new functionality including drop-down and cascading menus.
