The proposed pilot study is a follow-up to the Federal Trade Commission’s ("FTC")previous pilot study conducted from October 2005 through June 2006. After the initial pilot study was conducted, the FTC requested that the Office of Management and Budget ("OMB") discontinue the clearance (OMB Control No. 3084-0133). The FTC is now requesting that the OMB reinstate that clearance so that it can conduct a follow-up pilot study. The FTC believes it is necessary to conduct a follow-up pilot study to evaluate additional design elements prior to carrying out a nationwide survey on the accuracy and completeness of consumer credit reports. The additional design elements would permit the FTC to further assess whether certain data pertinent to credit report accuracy can be obtained in a way that is not unduly resource-intensive or otherwise cost-prohibitive if extended to a nationwide survey. As was true of the initial study, the follow-up pilot study will not rely on the selection of a nationally representative sample of consumers, and statistical conclusions will not be drawn.
