Current and Future Conditions in the Upper Las Vegas Wash
Non-Response Follow-Up Telephone Survey
Introduction
Hello, my name is _____________, and I’m calling from Utah State University about a study that we’re
conducting for the Bureau of Land Management. Over the past two months we’ve tried several times to
contact your household by mail to request participation in a public survey focusing on future
management of the Upper Las Vegas Wash, an undeveloped public land area located to the north of
your neighborhood. Although we have completed the mail survey process, we’re following up now
with people who did not find the time to complete our survey questionnaire and asking if they could
spend just 5 minutes on the telephone to answer a few key questions that are really important to our
study. Results from this study will help the BLM to make better decisions about future use and
management of the Upper Las Vegas Wash.
To help insure that we talk to a mix of men and women, and to both younger and older residents across
the state, may I please speak with the member of your household who is 18 years of age or older and
whose birthday has occurred most recently?
(IF NOT AVAILABLE, ASK FOR CALL-BACK INFORMATION – who to ask for, when it will be best to
call).
(REPEAT INITIAL INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH ONCE PROPER RESPONDENT IS ON THE
LINE)
(NOTE: THE INTERVIEWER WILL HAVE THE OMB CONTROL NUMBER AND PRA STATEMENT IN
CASE SOMEONE ASKS ON THE PHONE SURVEY)

Before we start, I want to assure you that there are no anticipated risks involved with participation in
this study. Your participation is voluntary, and all of your responses will remain anonymous. We are
calling people who could not respond to our mail survey at random, and we’re not recording names,
addresses, or any other identifying information. Study results will be reported only as summaries based
on grouped data, so that no individual’s answers can be identified. So, can we get started with the first
question?
