We are writing to invite your institution to apply for the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, an initiative that reflects the President’s Call to Service and the historic civic engagement mission of our nation’s colleges.

This annual recognition program, now in its second year, is sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service, USA Freedom Corps, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, and the U.S. Departments of Education and Housing and Urban Development, and is presented in cooperation with Campus Compact and other higher education community associations. The program is designed to increase public awareness of the contributions of colleges and their students to local communities and the nation as a whole through community service, as well as to identify and disseminate exemplary programs and practices. This year’s Honor Roll program will highlight college student service projects that provide services in support of the high school graduation and college readiness of youth in disadvantaged circumstances.

The exemplary student service projects of institutions selected for the Honor Roll will be publicized in a number of ways and posted on federal websites. In addition, a limited number of Honor Roll members will be selected for special Presidential Awards recognizing especially outstanding community service projects. Honor Roll members and award recipients will be announced at ____ (date and venue To Be Determined)__.

Please ask a member of your staff to review the application guidance and complete the electronic application now available at http://www.nationalservice.gov/honorroll, coordinating as necessary with appropriate campus offices. The due date for applications is July 31, 2007.
