Goodafternoon Catina and Thelma:

Thank you for arranging the telephone conference with John from OMB.    Here is the text in response to John's question regarding the methods of recruitment and assurance of high response rate.  Thank you for moving this forward.

The project proposes to collaborate with our partner CARE Tanzania, who employs field officers in the target area.  These field officers currently work with the target villages on existing projects and they will be involved in the recruitment efforts for the sustainability assessment.  These field officers will speak with the village leadership during one of their visits to the village or by phone in which they will explain the purpose of data collection  and the approximate time when it will take place, and the persons who might be contacted.  The village leadership will put this on the agenda for the village assembly meeting, a usual procedure followed by the village governments.  Once the time and dates are fixed for data collection activities, the village leadership will be contacted again with that information prior to field visits.   Who will share this information with the individuals who will be targeted for specific data collection effort (e.g, Village Health Workers, Key Informants). This procedure will assure that the project follows the established customs for entry into the village. The data collection will take place at the village and it is anticipated that majority of the people will be available during the set visits but provisions will be made to reach those who are not available, thereby minimizing the nonresponse.  These procedures have worked in the previous research conducted in these communities with little nonresponse.
