The National Science Foundation (NSF) is conducting a survey of individuals who graduated three to six years ago
with a degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field from a Historically Black College
and University (HBCU) that received funding from NSF to implement a program called HBCU-UP. NSF records
indicate that you received a baccalaureate degree in a STEM field from «UNIVERSITY» within that time frame.
If you did not, please check this box † and return this letter and the survey in the stamped, self-addressed envelope
that is enclosed.
If you did graduate from «UNIVERSITY» with a STEM degree, please take 12-15 minutes to complete the enclosed
survey. You may also contact our calling center at the number below and complete the survey in even
less time over the telephone. In the interest of improving the education of future STEM students at your HBCU,
NSF would like to know about your experiences in the STEM degree program as well as your professional or
academic experience since obtaining your bachelor’s degree.
Your individual responses will be kept confidential and the information you and others provide will be used for
program assessment and research purposes. The data collected will only be available to NSF and its research team,
which includes the Urban Institute and NuStats. All three institutions are legally bound to protect the identity of
respondents to the enclosed survey.
