T his correspondence is from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), which is conducting a new study to improve scientific guidance on medical examiner performance that impacts interstate commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver health and safety.

This survey is a different one from the FMCSA Role Delineation Study Survey, which you may have received earlier in the mail. Participation in one study does not preclude participation in the other.

If you conduct physical qualification examinations for CMV drivers, please consider registering to complete an anonymous online survey that includes:

• CMV driver physical examination case studies

• Questions regarding examination tasks delegated to support personnel

• An opportunity to share uncertainties encountered during physical examinations

• Your feedback to FMCSA regarding the physical examination process

Your survey responses are extremely important and will provide the only data of its kind. After analysis is completed, information that identifies you will be destroyed to preserve your anonymity.
