Attachment 4. PMR/F Eligibility Requirements

Physicians and veterinarians who apply to enter the PMR/F practicum year must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for selection.

Eligibility for Residency

Any U.S. citizen or permanent resident who:

  1. is currently a U.S. government physician or will be eligible to be hired as such (in either a fellowship personnel system or as a Commissioned Corps Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service) before entering the program;

  2. has a current, full, and unrestricted medical license from a U.S. licensing jurisdiction;

  3. has completed at least 1 year of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) postgraduate clinical training involving at least 6 months of direct patient care;

  4. has an MPH or other appropriate postgraduate degree, as defined by ACGME, or is eligible for U.S. government-sponsored full-time long-term training for a Masters in Public Health (MPH);

  5. will have trained for two years in the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) or has comparable experience before entering the program; and

  6. has not completed and ACGME-accredited Public Health/General Preventive Medicine residency

Eligibility for Fellowship

Any U.S. citizen or permanent resident who:

  1. is currently a U.S. government veterinarian (or will be eligible to be hired as such before entering the PMF);

  2. has a current, full, and unrestricted veterinary medical license from a U.S. licensing jurisdiction;

  3. has an MPH or equivalent degree from an accredited university;

  4. will have trained for two years in the EIS or has equivalent experience before entering the PMF

  5. All existing PMR/F alumni are also alumni of CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS), a two-year fellowship in applied epidemiology. In 2007 PMR/F accepted its first resident with experience equivalent to EIS. She is expected to graduate from her practicum year in June, 2008.
