Note to Reviewer of 1220-0157

OMB approved the main data collection of NLSY97 Round 10 and the Round 11 pretest on October 23, 2006, with the following terms of clearance.

“TERMS OF CLEARANCE:

This collection is approved for one year with the following terms of clearance: The recording of validation interviews is approved for round 10 only. BLS will provide further information on the proposed incentive experiment for approval by OMB prior to implementation.”

In the OMB justification document for Round 11 of the NLSY97, BLS again requests OMB approval to record validation interviews, as well as segments of the main interviews. If the OMB reviewer wishes to discuss the experience from Round 10 and plans for Round 11, the National Longitudinal Surveys program staff is happy to have a meeting or conference call at the reviewer’s convenience.

Regarding the proposed incentive experiment, BLS submitted detailed plans to OMB on November 21, 2006, and OMB subsequently approved those plans. The OMB justification document for Round 11 provides some very preliminary results of the planned two-round experiment and explains that we will continue the experiment in Round 11.
