The proposed Aircraft Drinking Water Rule (ADWR) is tailored to the unique characteristics of aircraft public water systems (PWSs) to ensure that safe and reliable drinking water is provided to passengers and crew. The proposed rule further protects the public from exposure to microbial contaminants via aircraft drinking water by establishing barriers of protection targeted for air carriers. These include monitoring, best management practices, corrective action, public notification, operator training, and reporting and recordkeeping. The proposed ADWR requires information collection regarding the quality of water onboard aircraft, the effectiveness of disinfection and flushing procedures, the implementation of routine measures and corrective actions and public notification events.
US Code:
42 USC 300f
Name of Law: Safe Drinking Water Act
By tailoring the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations to the unique operational characteristics of aircraft public water systems via the Aircraft Drinking Water Rule, the increase in respondent burden is less than that which would result from compliance with the existing regulations.
