In November 2005 SBA piloted a one-year loan program specially targeted to the counties and parishes that were declared disaster areas as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This pilot has been extended to 9/30/08. Lenders use primarily their own application, however, SBA requires the minimal information requested on these forms from lenders and borrowers to carry out its loan monitoring, portfolio risk management, and lender oversight activities associated with this loan pilot.
There has been a significant reduction in the burden-hours originally estimated. The program was designed to principally be an interim step for business disaster loan victims until the disaster loan funds that they were eligible for were received. However, the estimated interim financing needed by the these small businesses were over-estimated. Either businesses re-located to non-affected areas or the disaster loan funds applied for were received instead.
