SUBJECT: Justification to Change Program Name in ICR #0584-0008
Food Stamp Program – Store Applications
The purpose of this memorandum is to request a change in the Food Stamp Program (FSP) name for Information Collection Request (ICR) OMB Control No. 0584-0008 which approval expires on July 31, 2011.
On June 18, 2008, Congress enacted Public Law 110-246, the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008 (the Act). Title IV of the Act addresses the FSP. Section 4001 and 4002 rename the Food Stamp Program as the “Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program” or SNAP and changes the name of the Food Stamp Act of 1977 to the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008. These changes are effective October 1, 2008.
To comply with the Congressional mandate, the Food and Nutrition Service requests permission to change the name from the Food Stamp Program to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and any reference to FSP benefits to SNAP benefits on the Forms FNS-252; FNS-252-E; FNS-252-2 and FNS-252-C for Corporations (Chain Stores). No other changes to these forms under the approved OMB Control No. 0584-0008 will be made.
