USDA/1890 National Scholars Program
Eligibility Requirements
for
Currently Enrolled College Students
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen;
Have a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average;
Must be no more than an rising sophomore or junior [in order to be considered under the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP)];
Demonstrate leadership and community service;
Apply for admission to, or currently attend, the 1890 University in which they submitted their USDA/1890 National Scholars Program application package;
Submit an official transcript to include grades through fall semester;
Submit a resume;
Submit two letters of recommendation from the following:
Department Head, Dean of College, or one of the Vice Presidents of University
College Professor who has taught you
Submit 500-800 word essay describing your interest in USDA and how you envision the scholarship will impact you and your future as a public servant. Also describe your experiences and perceptions about agriculture, food, and natural resource sciences; and
Submit the application package to the liaison office at the 1890 University of the applicant’s choice by the February 1st postmarked deadline.
