SSA collects information to establish (1) the claimant’s right to administrative review, (2) the severity of the claimant’s alleged impairments and (3) the level of performance by the State Disability Determination Services (DDSs). SSA then uses the information collected by these regulations to determine entitlement and/or eligibility to disability insurance benefits and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and to enable appeals of these determinations. The respondents are applicants for Title II disability insurance benefits or SSI.

Cutting Redundancy
This package contains new information collections that will increase the public reporting burden. The vast majority of the burden hours are from part 404 of the regulations and many of those regulations were not included in the 2006 clearance package. Also, in 2006 when we first cleared the reporting requirements, we estimated much of the public burden. With this clearance package, we were able to provide better estimates based on real data.
