During 2009, the U.S. Census Bureau provided all Alaska Native villages (ANVs) and groups recognized under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1972 (ANCSA) the opportunity to update Alaska Native Village statistical areas (ANVSAs). New delineations and area adjustments to the Census Bureau’s MAF/TIGER Database (MTDB), resulting in part from participant submissions, have been completed, and the verification phase is now under way. We are offering you a chance to review the ANVSAs within your corporation boundary.
To assist with your review of the ANVSAs within your region, the Census Bureau is providing the enclosed map(s) showing the ANVSAs within your corporation. Should you wish to view individual ANVSAs in more detail, we have also included instructions on how to view ANVSA map documents in PDF format, which are posted on the Tribal Statistical Areas Program website at http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tsap2010/tsap2010.html.
Because the ANVSAs will be included in the results of the 2010 Census and data will be tabulated for each area, the Census Bureau must finalize all geographic updates by May, 2010. For this reason, we ask that you conclude your review and notify the Seattle Regional Census Center (RCC) no later than April 9, 2010.
