Student Attitudes Interview


Note: Children will be interviewed individually and responses recorded by the interviewee.

  1. [ask] Do you know what I mean when I use the word drug? [if yes, prompt their definition; if no, supply simple definition]

  2. [ask] Have you ever talked with your parents about drugs? [if yes] What do you remember about what was said?

  3. [ask] Where have you learned about drugs: parents, friends, school, TV, movies? What did you learn about drugs from these people or places?

[For the following question, prompts may include pictures, smiley faces, or glasses filled with water to illustrate the range from very to not so bad.]

  1. [ask] How dangerous do you think it is if people use alcohol? Smoke cigarettes? Use marijuana or any other illegal drugs?

[For the following questions, prompts may include pictures or dolls that portray persons of various ages.]

  1. [ask] How old do you think someone is when they start drinking alcohol? When they start trying drugs?

[For the next question, trading cards will be used that picture the food pyramid, forms of exercise, sleeping habits, safety precautions (helmets, sunscreen, etc), and drugs such as nicotine, alcohol, Tylenol, and antibiotics]

8. Children will sort the cards into 2 piles: good/healthy and bad/unhealthy.
