OMB approves the program changes to this information collection. The Department of Education plans to discontinue this information collection at the conclusion of the two-year approval period and to exclusively collect the information related to the Gun-Free Schools Act via the EDFacts electronic collection system.
ED Response:
There are approximately 10 states that have not completely transitioned to EDEN. There are a few states that are transition ready but may not be prepared to submit data via EDEN due to system delays at the local level. The EdFacts EDEN Team has been working with states in developing their Transition plans for electronic data collection for the past year to ensure that they are ready to completely transition by school report year 2008-2009. Additionally, the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools staff and its contractor are working with these few remaining states to provide technical assistance as they continue develop their electronic data systems for submitting data through EDEN.
Because of this, we are allowing only these few state to submit the paper form of the GFSA for this report year only as we expect that for school report year 2008-2009 all states will have transitioned to EDEN.
