RECORD STRUCTURE FOR TALENT TRANSFER INITIATIVE STUDY

File Layout

An ASCII text file is the preferred method for submitting the data required. Below is a detailed record structure for you to follow when submitting the required information in that format. We understand that it may be easier to provide data in some other format such as an ACCESS database or an Excel spreadsheet. If you do not use ASCII, please note the Database Column Names in column three on the attached table, which are provided to standardize the field headings. It would be most helpful if you would change any header names you are using to match those in the Database Column Name before submitting the data. This will help the Mathematica team to convert the information you provide into a usable format. The record structure includes the following headings:


  • Field No./Type refers to the variable number and the data type requested. The different data types include numeric (Num) and alpha-numeric (A/N).


  • Field Name is the general heading for each variable requested.


  • Database Column Name is the specific name of the variable to be used for coding purposes.


  • Valid Field Content provides the format for acceptable responses and coding for alpha-numeric responses.



Types of Data

The record structure below includes four major areas for which we would like data on these participants:


  • Student Characteristics, and Services includes basic background characteristics of each student, such as gender, date of birth, race/ethnicity, and the student’s 2007-2008, 2006-2007, and 2005-2006 LEP or ELL status and eligibility for free or reduced-price lunch or special education services.


  • Test Sores includes information about the student’s 2007-2008, 2006-2007, and 2005-2006 standardized test scores.


  • Enrollment Data includes the student’s school enrollment status for 2007-2008, 2006-2007, and 2005-2006 school years.
