Justification statement for new Spanish 14039(SP)
Form 14039 and 14039(SP) are used to provide a method of reporting identity theft issues to the IRS so that the IRS may document situations where individuals are or may be victims of identity theft. The new Spanish version of the form will enable non-English speaking taxpayer the ability to better understand the document. It is estimated that 20% of the ID theft forms filled out would be the Spanish version, while the other 80% of the ones we get would be the English version. We would like to use the Spanish version as required by the multilingual initiative, to give Spanish speaking taxpayers this same opportunity to report instances of identity theft.
