The Office of Personnel
Management (OPM) has centralized the process of verifying the
501(c)(3) tax-exempt status of applicant charities, which had been
handled primarily by more than 200 local CFC offices throughout the
United States, in response to a recommendation from the Government
Accountability Office. Previous figures were provided based on
estimates from those offices. Current figures are based on actual
data processed by OPM.
