PROJECT CODE 172

QID 050040

Dear Reporter:

As a service to agriculture and the general public, the Department of Agriculture collects and distributes information on prices being received by farmers for various farm products on or about the 15th of each month.

Response to this survey is voluntary and not required by law. However, cooperation is very important in order to estimate accurately the prices farmers are receiving for commodities they sell.

Your report will be combined with reports from other reporters in preparing estimates for Virginia and the nation. Individual reports are kept confidential. Please note the instructions and mail your report promptly in the enclosed postage paid envelope.

Thank you for your cooperation.

INSTRUCTIONS

a. Only one price should be reported for each product. This should be an estimated average price received by farmers for all transactions at the point of sale before any marketing deductions. It should be the price which would result if the gross amount received by farmers (before any deductions) were divided by the quantity sold.

b. The reported prices should reflect premiums and discounts for test weight and foreign matter for grains, and other quality factors for each commodity for which you report a price. Grain prices should be reported for dry grain. (Standard moisture content).

c. The price should be for all grades and qualities sold during the current month.

d. Report only on items for which you know prices are being received by local producers.

e. Please report prices in the unit of measure shown for each product.
