HIV Testing Factors Among Rural Black Men (HiTFARM)”

Attachment 3b. Recruitment Script

Recruitment Script

Hello, my name is _______________. I work for a non-profit organization named CHARM, Inc. My co-worker and I are recruiting people to take part in a research study being conducted Dr. Emma Brown.

We hope to learn more about your ideas and feelings about HIV testing and about your past and current testing behavior. We also hope to use what we learn from you to understand the beliefs, perceptions and behaviors of men like you. Finally, we also hope to learn what you think we could do to encourage men to take part in HIV testing.

We are looking for men who have certain traits, so you will be asked to complete a short paper-and-pencil screening survey. Based on your response you may or may not be invited to take part in the study. If you meet the screening criteria and volunteer to participate you will be asked to:

1) Complete a computer survey at the location where you are approached. This survey will take about 45 minutes and will be done on a laptop computer with a voice to read the questions to you and 2) volunteer to take an HIV test in an outreach van or at the health department in your county.

You will also be asked to provide your contact information and the contact information of two persons who will know your whereabouts so that we can contact you later to ask about your interest in being part of a focus group discussion later and/or to ask about your HIV testing at the health departments.
