This list may look long, but most of the equipment will not apply to your trip to _______________. Since we are asking only about spending associated with the equipment you had with you, completing this section should not take long. The example will help clarify what information is needed.
Column A Check if you owned and had this equipment with you on your recent trip.
Column B Indicate the number of trips (in the last 12 months) on which you took that equipment on trips to _______________ (not including the trip when you were interviewed).

The items Joe had with him included a tent, sleeping bag, and hiking boots all purchased new in the past 12 months. He also had a hammock, which was purchased used. Please look at the list and see how these items should be reported on the questionnaire.
All items were camping equipment (Column A) and used on 2 trips to _______________ in the past 12 months (Column B) and on 10 trips to other areas in the past 12 months (Column C).

PART B. EXPENSES DURING YOUR RECENT TRIP TO _______________
We would now like to ask about expenses related to the trip you were on when you were interviewed. First, please complete one of the questions below indicating for how many people you paid expenses.
INSTRUCTIONS
In Column A on the following pages we have listed many things people sometimes pay for when on a recreational trip. The list may look long, but because we are asking only about things you paid for on your trip, most will not apply to you. Please go through the list in Column A and check which expenses you paid for or shared (according to your answer to the questions on the next page). Include all trip-related expenses while at home preparing for the trip, while during the trip, and after returning home. Include expenses paid by charge card, check, cash, or any other way. Round all numbers to the nearest whole dollar.
Column A Check all items for which you personally paid expenses during your trip.
Column B Amounts spent at home while preparing for or after returning from the trip.
Column C Amounts spent traveling to and from the interview site.
Column D Amounts spent while at or near the interview site (in the same county).
