Outpatient Hospital Services |
Hospital services provided to patients who are not admitted to a hospital. (You’re a hospital “outpatient” when you’re getting services at the hospital and the doctor hasn’t written an order to admit you as an “inpatient.” You may be an outpatient even if you spend the night at the hospital.) Examples of outpatient hospital services include care in the Emergency Department (often called “the ER”), observation services, and outpatient surgery (also called “day surgery,” or “ambulatory surgery”).
