Alaska Migratory Bird Subsistence Harvest Survey

Household Invitation
This survey asks about birds and their eggs harvested
for food and other customary and traditional uses.
Participation of villages and households
in the survey is voluntary.
Your Tribal Council has agreed to participate in this
survey.
It is important to participate even if your household
does not harvest birds or eggs.

Harvest estimates from this survey are used to:
• Document subsistence harvest trends and track major changes.
• Document the importance of subsistence customary and traditional
uses of migratory birds so that subsistence uses can be protected.
• Assist the USFWS in setting spring/summer migratory bird harvest
regulations.
• Assist in the development of plans for the management and
conservation of birds by state and federal agencies.

In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act (44 U.S.C. 3501 et seq.), please note the
following information.
This survey is authorized by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (16 U.S.C. 703 et seq.) and the
Migratory Bird Treaty Act Protocol Amendment (1995) and its letter of submittal from the
Department of State to the White House, which specifies the need for harvest monitoring.
Your participation in the survey is voluntary. We will use the information your household provides
to estimate subsistence migratory bird harvest in subsistence eligible areas of Alaska. Household
harvest reports are anonymous and no names are used on harvest report forms. Harvest estimates
are produced at the regional and subregional levels. With the help of a surveyor, we estimate it will
take about 5 minutes each to provide household consent and to report your seasonal bird/egg
harvest.
OMB has approved this information collection and assigned OMB Control Number 1018-0124,
which expires XX/XX/2013. We may not conduct or sponsor and you are not required to respond
to a collection of information unless it displays a current Office of Management and Budget control
number.
