Respondents will be recruited through staff at LGBT community centers, flyers distributed at LGBT community centers and word-of-mouth. Initial contact may be made by staff at the LGBT community center. In that case, staff would read the following text to the individual, “You may be eligible to participate in a research study [today/on specified date] if you would like to do so. Researchers from the National Center for Health Statistics are here [today/date] testing survey questions on behaviors that might put someone at risk for HIV (the virus that causes AIDS). You are under no obligation to do this. If you are interested or would like more information, researchers from the National Center for Health Statistics are available to answer your questions as well as to determine your eligibility for the study.” Individuals who express interest in participating will meet with a QDRL interviewer who will explain the project in more detail.
Men who have sex with Men Wanted for Research Study
The National Center for Health Statistics
is looking for Men aged 18 years and over who have sex with men to test survey questions on behaviors that might put someone at risk for contracting HIV (the virus that causes AIDS). The survey research interview will be no longer than 90 minutes and participants will receive $50.

Initial contact may be made by staff at the needle exchange center.
