Aquaculture Totaled 32.3 Million in 2009
In cooperation with
Hawaii grown aquaculture totaled $32.3 million in 2009, decreasing 7 percent from
2008. Algae sales accounted for 53 percent of the value and amounted to $17.0
million. The ‘other’ category includes seed stock, brood stock, and other items
counted by number, accounted for 24 percent of the total or $7.8 million. Finfish
sales by weight was valued at $4.4 million, comprised 14 percent of the total. The
ornamental category was pegged at $2.7 million or 8 percent of the total. Shellfish
sales by weight valued was valued at $420 thousand, making up the remaining
1 percent of the total. ■
