Non-substantive Change Justification Statement
Egg, Chicken and Turkey Surveys, OMB 0535-0004
NASS is submitting this non-substantive change request for adding a couple of clarification questions to two of our currently approved questionnaires (Turkeys Raised and Monthly Chicken and Egg Report). These questionnaires are predominantly self administered (mail and internet) and the minor changes will help the respondents to better understand where to report their data, resulting in improved data published by NASS.
On the Turkeys Raised survey we are currently asking for a total number of turkey poults placed (include both owned and raised under contract). NASS wants to add an additional question to break out the number of poults that were raised under contract from the total number already being reported.
On the Monthly Chicken and Egg Report we are currently asking how many layers are currently on hand. Some respondents were not sure if they should include young birds (that would be used as layers) being added to the flock or not, so we are adding an additional question, to help clarify this for the respondents.
Pullet chicks are normally added to the flock when they are less than 3 days old. Some farmers that would purchase chicks from other farm operations, but did not receive the chicks on time, were not sure if they should include these chicks on their monthly report. We are adding an extra question so that these chicks are included.
The proposed changes will not result in any additional burden on the respondents and there are no changes in sampling or methodology.
