Dear________________________
The Bureau of the Census has undertaken for the Department of Housing and Urban Development a survey of the current market activity of newly completed apartment buildings. The survey is designed to measure the rates at which different types of apartments are rented or absorbed by the market.
The Survey of Market Absorption is conducted nationwide on a sample basis. Of all buildings completed in any month, up to 1,000 are selected for the survey. The selected building(s) are indicated above.
Your report to the Bureau of the Census is confidential by law (title 13, U.S. Code), and may only be seen by sworn Census employees. Data are only released in statistical summary form, so no information about any building could be identified. The survey has been approved by the Office of Management and Budget and has been given approval number 2528-0013 which appears on every survey document. Without this number, we could not conduct the survey.
We estimate that it will take an average of 18 minutes to interview at each selected building. This includes an initial interview and up to three subsequent shorter interviews. Interviewing may be conducted by phone or personal visit. If you have any comments regarding this estimate or any other aspect of the survey, send them to the Associate Director for Administration, Paperwork Reduction Project 2528-0013, Bureau of the Census, 4600 Silver Hill Road, Washington, DC 20233-1500.
Your participation in this voluntary program is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
U.S. Census Representative
